Stephen Sondheim Theatre

Appearing in New York on Saturday 25th July 2026, New York is now welcoming the jukebox musical with unique storytelling, the show from West End, & Juliet, in its favorite theater spot for show business, Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Boasting the best possible technology and superb stage and seating construction, Stephen Sondheim Theatre is surely as up-to-date as the play that will be presented inside its halls.

The reimagined play, being one of the newest additions to theater and debuting less than a decade ago, stands as a testament to the possibilities that post-modern staged plays could accomplish. Created by the Emmy-winning writer from Schitt's Creek and featuring the pop anthems of hit-maker Max Martin, the musical's narrative, which centers around Juliet overcoming a "man's world" and how a girl is expected to act is a huge difference from the plot we have ingrained from Romeo and Juliet; in the course of her story unfolding, Juliet and the women in the story takes on a free way to live, and on their own at that.

William Shakespeare's classic script naturally revolves around love as the play's central theme, especially both the highs and lows of true romance. The reimagining of Juliet's life in '& Juliet' on the other hand is a showcase of empowerment and taking control of your own fate, while placing emphasis on the choices that you make. The two contrasting tropes that stem from plays which were produced in two entirely disparate generations show the extent which theater and musical stories have improved from the past years.

The new play is easily able to introduce to its audience the changes between the two plays by using the characters of Shakespeare himself and his wife, who at various scenes all throughout the running time of the musical rewrite the play based on their opinions and what they think should transpire for the female cast of characters. These arguments mixed with the other sequences of Juliet's escape to Paris demonstrate how the play is not just amusing, but also very enlightening as the musical links the contrasting themes which is present in both the previous Shakespearean play and the present-day musical. This production stars Gianna Harris as Juliet, Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart as Lance, Alison Luff as Anne, and Drew Gehling as Shakespeare.

Whether a fan of the original Romeo & Juliet or a new viewer of contemporary theater, this play is something you can't miss for any theatergoer. The awe-inspiring musical is a masterclass on how to apply a unique twist to make a classic play and its characters much more for viewers of any background. With a runtime of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including intermission, performances are at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
