& Juliet, one of the decade’s favorite plays is arriving in Stephen Sondheim Theatre, New York in the coming December on Thursday 11th December 2025. Based on one of the most renowned classics, Stephen Sondheim Theatre takes on the challenge of holding the production of the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet. Furnished with first-class technical hardware that is sure to deliver a phenomenal live musical, audiences are in for a treat with not just an enjoyable viewing but also a flawless technical production of this jukebox musical.
The love affair of Romeo and Juliet has long been known as one of the saddest stories across multiple generations, with Romeo and Juliet’s zealous devotion for each other leading to their own demise. Using Shakespeare and his wife, Hathaway, as characters in the musical itself however, Broadway's brand-new show, & Juliet, tweaks the previous story by allowing Juliet to change her own fate in Romeo's suicide and focusing on her own coming-of-age story. Choosing to begin again with her equally-resolved friends, the cast is introduced to a new landscape beyond what they were accustomed to once they arrive in Paris, France.
Having been produced four centuries after the original, '& Juliet' also chose to apply execution that fits current times. To present its point across to the audience, the musical showcases a set of songs taken from pop music industry's chart-topper producer, Max Martin. The Swedish songwriter and producer already had intentions of immortalizing his songs through theater as well, which prompted the jukebox musical, & Juliet, being created and subsequently premiering in 2019. Martin was very liberal in the manipulation of his songs to the musical, expressing how he “wanted every song to feel like it was written for the musical, and to make theatergoers experience that even if it is a very different medium for his usual work, the audience should discover their love for his hits again.” '& Juliet' now has the songs from world-class performers namely Jessie J, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, and The Backstreet Boys, among others. Because of this, the musical enabled a new way to appeal to a diverse audience to West End.
